Burial Vaults
What Is a Burial Vault?
Burial Vaults (also known as Outer Burial Containers) are not required by Federal, State or Local Governments, but are required at all local cemeteries. Vaults come in a variety of styles. A burial vault protects the casket from the weight of the earth and cemetery equipment that passes over the gravesite. The least expensive is known as a Graveliner, which meets some cemetery requirements, while others require vaults that have a domed top and seal.We can check with each individual cemetery in what is permitted.
Please be advised, burial vaults cannot be purchased on their own. You must buy a casket to be eligible to purchase a burial vault.
Burial vaults also resist water and preserve the beauty of the cemetery by preventing the ground from sinking. Catholic Diocese of Chicago and some other area cemeteries require that you purchase a Graveliner from them exclusively. However, they do not prevent your family from purchasing other burial vaults from another vendor such as us.
